Marsali with Old Man of Storr, Isle of Skye

'I said to the man...'

Biography

My name is Marsali Anne Campbell (I know my name is difficult, just think of Parsley but don’t forget to change the letters!!). I was born as the middle child to Rev. William and Nurse Margaret, both born and bred Lewis (an island off the North-West coast of Scotland). I have an older sister Christine married to John and mother of two wee superstars, Shannon, nearly 4yrs and Rachael, 1yr. I am also richly blessed to have a younger brother William.

My father was asked to work in Canada in 1968 and there I was born. We were a few years in Detroit before we moved back home to Gravir, Isle of Lewis. We enjoyed life there then Dad was asked to go to Portree, Isle of Skye, so we moved when I was ~13yrs old and that was good in many ways as well.

I’ll quickly run through the next bit - moved to Glasgow at 18yrs of age for 5yrs to train as a nurse then, in 1993 I spent a year working as a volunteer nurse in rural India. Back to Inverness then 2yrs in Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, 1yr backpack travelling around the world. Now I’ve been back in Glasgow for 2.5 yrs working in Paediatric Accident and Emergency Department at Yorkhill Hospital - whew!!

Fellowship Group

I became a Christian in 1992 joining Smithton Culloden Free Church as a member in 1994. I try to walk with God yet my strength is that He walks with me. To know me is to know many different parts that make us individual and special. My family are a huge part of me and I thank God endlessly for them and I love them without measure. My heart is in the Highlands of Scotland, yet I am a nomad by nature. I love travelling and I thank God for the many blessings He has shown me in many aspects of walking in His beautiful yet troubled world. I love children and I’m a strong advocate for the rights of the child. Maybe everybody is a child at heart, and I can honestly say I am at my happiest with children, especially my two beautiful nieces.

Now AIM, African Inland Mission…. I have been thinking of travelling/volunteer work since the beginning of 2000, and when I came to know of AIM in June I was convinced God was leading me to work with them. They are a Christian organisation that began in Kenya in 185? (by a Scot) and now work in 15 countries (they have web-site for more info: www.aim-euro.org).
